Baker & Nosh was one of my favorite places in Uptown, famous for really great breads and pastries and a friendly atmosphere. But after some ambitious plans fell through, the business has been having a tough spring, and crowdfunding may be their only option for survival.

Back in 2016, Baker and Nosh announced two big plans. First, they were going to open a second location in Edgewater. Second, they were going to close their original location and move a few blocks to the East, to a former Starbucks location on Wilson Avenue.

Apparently, they had hoped to keep the original location open until the new one was done, but they ended up closing the original location in late March without a place to move to yet. Then, the financing on the new place fell through, leaving them with no existing business and no clear path forward. They announced this in a recent Facebook post:

Well, they've got a way forward now—or at least something like one. They've launched an incredibly ambitious plan to raise money through a GoFundMe - $650,000 worth. It's been up for a day now and has raised more than $1000, though there's still a long way to go. Community members have also expressed enthusiastic support for their success.

Good luck, B&N. We're pulling for you!
