Ontario Street near the Kennedy Expressway onramp
Police are searching for the driver who fled the scene of a horrendous, fiery crash that killed a female passenger in River North early Monday morning.
The driver of a 2009 Nissan Coupe was speeding in the 400 block of W. Ontario Street—just ahead of the busy Kennedy Expressway onramp—at around 1:30 a.m. when the car plowed into two utility poles, spun out and burst into flames, according to police and reports. One pole was completely knocked over, according to NBC Chicago. Even though the car was split in two and left ravaged nearly beyond recognition by the fire, the possibly injured male driver fled on foot. A female passenger in her 20s was pronounced dead on the scene by responding emergency crews, police said.
