A major new development could be popping up near the Chicago River downtown, from the same group that's currently in the process of bringing you the city's third tallest building.

The project also calls for a nearby hotel-plus-residences combo. As many as 640 homes and 626 hotel rooms could be included, according to Reilly. The proposal could see some 2,000 homes and roughly 1,000 hotel rooms added to the huge Lakeshore East area, along Lake Shore Drive near the Chicago River and Lake Michigan, in the northeast Loop. It's the same parcel that Magellan has been developing for 15-plus years. Other large-scale Lakeshore East residential towers include the Lancaster, the Shoreham, the Tides, the Chandler and the much-celebrated Gang creation Aqua.

A meeting for the proposal is scheduled for July 10 at 6 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency Hotel (151 E. Wacker Dr.), where we'll presumably get our eyes on some fancy renderings.
