A 16-year-old boy was among 4 people fatally shot in Chicago Wednesday evening. Six more were wounded in the shootings, including a 14-year-old girl.

The boy was fatally shot in the back around 7:30 p.m. in Ashburn in the 3300 block of West 79th Street, according to police. He was taken to an Oak Lawn hospital and pronounced dead at 8:04 p.m. The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office identified him to the Tribune as Jose Mendoza Jr., of the 7800 block of South Christiana (just a few blocks from where he was shot).

Mendoza Jr. was one of at least four people killed in gun violence in Chicago yesterday; in another shootings, a 41-year-old and a 32-year-old woman were driving through Washington Park, in the 5400 block of South Wabash Avenue, when they were shot in the head by someone in another car around 10:30 p.m.

A 24-year-old man was fatally shot in the chest in Humboldt Park, in the 3200 block of West Haddon Avenue, earlier Wednesday afternoon. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His was just one of at least two shootings to take place in Humboldt Park, and other, non-fatal shootings occurred in South Austin, Gresham, Woodlawn, and West Pullman, according to the Tribune. In the latter shooting, a 14-year-old girl was likely shot accidentally by an acquaintance in her home, according to police.
