A harrowing video of a cyclist riding through a University Village intersection, colliding with a car and then flipping over, was shared on the internet this week in the wake of the July 18 collision. The cyclist, a 32 year-old male, was struck at the intersection of Halsted Street and Roosevelt Road after riding through a red signal around 5:38 p.m. according to police. The collision takes place around 20 seconds in to the video, above. The video, taken by the dashcam of a nearby driver, shows the cyclist flip over and fly several feet through the air.

Warning: the video is graphic.

He was taken to Cook County hospital in critical condition. The driver was a 22-year-old woman who stayed on the scene of the collision, according to police, and had no record of prior traffic citation.

Family and other people have been discussing the collision extensively on the cyclist message board the Chainlink, where a a woman who identified herself as the mother of the cyclist said that he was "alert and oriented," after being taken to the hospital, but required surgery.
