1 Dead, 7 Injured In Crash On Lake Shore Drive Near Uptown Monday Evening

One person was killed and seven more were injured in a crash on Lake Shore Drive Monday evening, according to authorities.
A Chevrolet driving southbound just before 6:00 p.m. in the 4700 block of North Lake Shore Drive reportedly crossed over into the northbound lanes of the drive, and in the process struck three other cars. According to police, the driver had been attempting to change lanes and may have lost control of the vehicle do to its speed. The driver, a woman, was taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center and pronounced dead, according to police. A police update on the crash says, "Preliminary information indicates speed to be a factor when the driver of the Chevy was attempting to change lanes."
Seven others were injured and six of them were treated in hospitals, three of whom were in serious-to-critical condition, according to the Sun-Times. The other three were in fair-to-serious condition, while a seventh injured person refused treatment.
North and southbound lanes of Lake Shore Drive were closed around the site of the collision earlier Monday evening, and southbound lanes were reopened around 9:20 p.m.

LSD & Lawrence lanes in both directions are shut down and will be shut down for some time. Stay clear of the area until area is reopened.
