The tastemakers over at Bon Appetit Magazine have unveiled their annual picks for country's 50 best new restaurants—and no city has more selections than Chicago.
Just as we did last year, Chicago landed four restaurants on this year's list: Danish-influenced hotspot Elske, in the West Loop; Jason Vincent's small-plate storefront Giant, in Logan Square; Diana Dávila's Mexican spot Mi Tocaya Antojería, also in Logan; and John and Karen Shields' fine-dining split concept Smyth & The Loyalist, in Fulton Market.
Those spots of course have already garnered a mess of acclaim, with perhaps only the slightly more mixed-received Mi Tocaya an exception.
For the competitive-minded, only three other cities had four representative on the list: Los Angeles, Portland and (if you combine the two) New York City (1) and Brooklyn (3). Charleston and Nashville repped well for the New South with three finalists apiece.
Last year, you might recall, Chicago netted four restaurants as well, with Boeufhaus, Monteverde, Pub Royale and Roister hitting the Top 50. More proof that Chicago is generally pretty good at this restaurant thing.
