Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) is apparently no fan of the madman theory when it comes to nuclear deterrence, especially when the other guy—"a man who executed his own uncle with an anti-aircraft machine gun"—has proven his ruthless bona fides.

Duckworth appeared on Late Night with Seth Meyers on Thursday night, and the host asked her about the current showdown between President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, particularly Trump's threat to unleash "fire and fury" (not to be confused with "fire and furry").

But that's not how military people approach things, she said. “The toughest fighters out there, the operators out there, are the quietest, most understated people you’ll ever meet," Duckworth told Meyers. "And frankly, he’s not helping us by engaging in this battle of terminology. You can’t out-hyperbole a dictator who’s crazy—a man who executed his own uncle with an anti-aircraft machine gun," she said, in reference to the brutal execution of Jang Song-thaek.

“Trump is not going to out-crazy Kim Jong-un. Stop it. You’re the commander-in-chief of the greatest military on the face of the earth. Act like it," she added.

With any luck, the Wieners Circle may be safe after all.

She goes on to argue that Trump's bellicosity plays into the hands of the "North Korean propaganda machine." Duckworth also issues a call for public service and speak out against the trans military ban.

"We've had tends of thousands of trans servicemen and women who've served honorably, who've bled and died for this country. To turn away people willing to sacrifice for us is foolish at best," she said.
