If you love blue-ing yourself, banging globs of paint around on drums and keeping your mouth shut, we have what might be the casting call of a lifetime. Yes, Tobias Fünkes of the land, the Blue Man Group is looking for additional Blue Men, and they're holding auditions right here in Chicago.

The casting call is slated for early next month, at Briar Street Theatre (3133 N. Halsted St.) on Wednesday, Sept. 6 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. And despite our snarky, reductive description, they are definitely looking for a specific range of skills and attributes. Potential Blue Men should check off the following qualifications, according to press materials:

-Height between 5’10’’ and 6’2’’ (athletic build) -Drumming skills and/or musicianship are an advantage, but a good sense of rhythm is a necessity -Excellent acting skills. Strong candidates often have backgrounds in theater and improvisation. Candidates are compelling and genuine nonverbal storytellers. They must thrive in a constantly evolving team environment on and off the stage -Willingness to relocate as the casting call helps to identify future Blue Men for existing and upcoming productions in Boston, Chicago, Las Vegas and Orlando

Neither the relocation detail nor the need to bulk the cobalt brigade in general should come as a surprise. Another group known for mass-appeal theatrical spectacles, Cirque du Soleil announced last month that it had purchased Blue Man Productions—the company that stages Blue Man Group performances around the country (including right here in Chicago)—an acquisition that came with promises of expanding and reaching new audiences.
