Sometimes, just as everything seems to be going to pot, something comes along that lifts your spirits and gives you life: or more specifically, a series of queer-friendly rollerskate nights at one of Chicago's best venues, paying homage to two infallible divas, with costumes encouraged.

The six skating sessions, dubbed “Queens on Wheels," are spread across three days the weekend after next, from Friday, Sept. 8 through Sunday, Sept. 10 at the Chicago Athletic Association's Stagg Court. The great, inclusive queer parties Peach (7 to 9 p.m.) and Femmes' Room (10 p.m. to midnight) helm up the first and second sessions on Friday, respectively. On Saturday comes the sure-to-be-mighty Bey Skate (6:30 to 8:30 p.m.), then Whip it to Whitney (9:30 to 11:30 p.m.). (CAA: "Sing along to the divas of 70s, 80s, and 90s wearing shoulders—if you Wanna Dance with Somebody, this is the night for you.") Two more skate jams close out Sunday, from 5 to 7 p.m., then 8 10 p.m.

Even better, portions of ticket sales benefit the Transformative Justice Law Project, a local advocacy group for trans people. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased here, or you can try your luck with the Do312 giveaway. Skate rentals cost $5. And note: "Dressing up to fully embrace your favorite Queen is highly encouraged."
