If you've ever dreamt of having your home-cooked meal eyed scornfully by celebrity chef and preeminent manufacturer of rage Gordon Ramsay, now's your chance, Chicago.
The Ramsay-co-hosted MasterChef—that long-running, oddly compelling reality-TV competition that pits amateur cooks in a fight to the death (or at least a gauntlet of kitchen challenges)—is looking for contestants for its ninth season. And the search includes a Chicago casting date next week, on Sept. 9.
We've always wondered what it would be like to have the performatively fiery Brit bite into our undercooked steak and shout "It's Raw!" straight through the core of our being. Now we can try! Of course, Ramsay—who now co-hosts with Christina Tosi and Aarón Sanchez—turns down the venom from Hell's Kitchen levels for the regular citizens of MasterChef, but we can always aspire.
The Chicago casting call runs from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 9, at the Sofitel Chicago-Magnificent Mile (20 E. Chestnut Street). Preregistration is strongly encouraged and can be done here. Hopefuls are asked to bring a completed application and their best dish. (Our nerves are wracked just thinking about it.) Here's rooting on the next David Martinez.
