We've been eagerly anticipating Half Acre Beer Company's new Bowmanville taproom for months. We covered the original expansion of their brewing operation back in 2015, but details on the taproom/restaurant portion didn't really come out until earlier this year. Originally, the taproom had an early-August opening date, but like all restaurant projects, things slipped a little bit. The brewery announced yesterday that the actual opening date will be Sept. 9.
This doesn't mean the beloved Lincoln Avenue taproom is going anywhere. In a blog post, Half Acre announced that they just refer to them as "Lincoln" and "Balmoral" and while Lincoln will continue to provide burritos and a more intimate beer hall experience, Balmoral (with its 60,000 square feet) will be a totally different animal. The main restaurant will seat approximately 120, the beer garden will seat 100, and there will be private dining space for groups.
Eater reported back in in July that Half Acre is planning a slightly more complete restaurant at the new location, inspired by the success that Chef Nick Lacasse had at the Lincoln Avenue location. Given the elevated bar food that has audiences begging for more at places like Forbidden Root and Old Irving Brewing, it's clear that diners want more than bland, typical bar bites to go with their craft beer, and we can't wait to see the opening menu.
The new brewery and taproom is at 2050 W. Balmoral Ave.
