Fulton Market has been absolutely booming over the last many months, but nothing spells a neighborhood's status as a 2017 hotspot in Chicago like the arrival of an arcade bar. The good folks at Emporium Arcade Bar revealed on Tuesday that they'll be bringing their airtight video-games-plus-booze concept to the Fulton Market/West Loop.
The new Emporium will move into the space at 839 W. Fulton Market, currently occupied by cocktail lounge The Betty, which will close over the weekend. But the takeover is a friendly one, with Emporium teaming up with Footman Hospitality, which owns The Betty, one their latest expansion.
Aside from the usual vintage arcade games and pool tables, beer-loving button-mashers can also expect to find foosball and air hockey at the new location.
Bar arcades have proven a winner in Chicago over the last few years, no surprise considering how much the concept appeals to nostalgic bar-goers of a certain age. But Emporium has also set itself apart with its parade of pop-ups at its Logan Square location (including a Run the Jewels pop-up and the massively popular Stranger Things homage, which of course just received the world's cheeriest cease-and-desist letter), and the Wicker Park location supports live local music acts and joyful oddities like the upcoming, semi-viral Wick on Wick in Wicker Park double feature.
Emporium hopes to have the Fulton Market location open later this year.
