A man has been arrested and charged in the robbery of a 70-year-old man on the Red Line in Lakeview August.

Karon Cannon, 24, of the Near West Side is charged with robbing an elderly man at the Sheridan Station on August 7 at around 6 p.m., according to police. They say Cannon punched the man in the face, knocking him to the ground. He then struck the man once with a "dangerous weapon" before taking his belongings and fleeing.

The victim sustained head injuries serious enough that he wasn't able to talk for two months. He was hospitalized at Illinois Masonic Hospital. Once he regained his ability to talk, he was able to tell police what happened and identify his attacker, who was also captured on surveillance video.

Cannon was arrested Wednesday, and he is due in bond court today. He is charged with one felony count of armed robbery and one felony count of aggravated battery/great bodily harm.

Police records show that after the date of the robbery, Cannon was also arrested on suspicion of domestic battery on Oct. 14.
