A man has been charged in the stabbing death of a 36-year-old woman Saturday night in the Southwest neighborhood of Marquette.

Elizabeth Kennedy, 36, was stabbed in the chest while attempting to break up a fight between her ex-boyfriend Eddie Crowder, 50, and another 34-year-old man, prosecutors told the Associated Press. Kennedy was dropping her 13-year-old daughter off when a fight broke out between Crowder and the other man. It turned into a shoving match that escalated in full view of the 13-year-old. Police were called in at 5:42 p.m.

Kennedy was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where she was pronounced dead at 7:40 p.m., CBS reports. The 34-year-old man was also stabbed several times in the arm, and he was stabilized at Holy Cross Hospital. A 75-year-old man was also hurt in the stabbing, but he refused medical attention.

Crowder, who lives in Oak Park, was charged with one count of first-degree murder and one felony count of aggravated battery and use of a deadly weapon, police said. He was ordered to be held without bail yesterday.

Kennedy had a child by Crowder, and she lived down the block from where the stabbing happened on West Marquette. A friend of Kennedy's wrote on Facebook, "Always had a smile on your face and was a great mother! My heart hurt for them kids!"
