A woman was raped and a man was hit over the head with a gun and tied up in a violent home invasion early on Friday morning in South Chicago, according to police.

A 39-year-old man was walking into his apartment in the 2300 block of East 80th Street at around 1 a.m. when two men forced their way inside. One of the suspects, who is between 35 and 40 years old, struck the man in the head with a handgun then sexually assaulted a 30-year-old woman who was in the residence, police said.

The men then took money, jewelry, cellphones and a television before fleeing the apartment, according to police.

The female victim was taken to South Shore Hospital, where her condition stabilized. The male victim suffered a minor cut on the left side of his head and refused medical attention, police said.

No suspects were in custody as of early Friday morning.
