A female cyclist was fatally struck on Wednesday morning while riding her bike in Garfield Ridge, on the Southwest Side, according to police.
Lisa Schalk, 50, was riding eastbound in the 5700 block of South Archer Avenue at around 8:03 a.m., according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. She was struck by the driver of a vehicle who was turning eastbound onto Archer, from S. Lorel Avenue, police said.
Schalk was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.
The driver of the vehicle, a 79-year-old man, was cited for failure to show due care to a pedestrian in the roadway, police said. He is scheduled to appear in traffic court on Dec. 14.
No additional information was available from police as of Wednesday afternoon.
At least four cyclists have now been fatally struck in Chicago in 2017.
