Tomorrow Night is Venetian Night

Venetian Night - Photo: commonpages.comTomorrow night is Chicago's 47th Annual Venetian Night, the annual lakefront event that features a parade of decorated boats the sail along Lake Michigan. This year 35 boats are expected to participate and the theme is "Broadway on the Lake" so expect a lot of show tunes.

The event kicks off with a free concert, "Classics of the Silver Screen," by the Grant Park Orchestra at the Pritzker Pavilion. The boat parade begins at about 8:30 and is followed by fireworks set to music by 93XRT at 9:30.

Venetian Night is Chicago's oldest city event. It began in 1958 and was modeled after the boat parades in Venice, Italy. The event is expected to bring over a half million people to the shore of Lake Michigan between Roosevelt Road and Monroe Street so go early to stake out a spot.
