Yes, it's that time of year. Are you ready for Pride festivities this weekend?
Pride is all about welcoming everyone from the gays to the straights, go-go boys, leather daddies and gay men with babies, drag queens, drag kings, boys, girls, Democrats and, yes, even a few Republicans. It's a weekend full of partying, worshipping, meeting friends and celebrating Chicago's diversity.
Tonight and Saturday, a number of events are planned throughout the city. The Dyke March isn't to be missed and Howard Brown Health Center has a number of events planned for youth.
On Sunday, the parade kicks off at noon from Belmont and Halsted, travelling up Halsted to Broadway, then South to Diversey. Arrive early to get a good view, wear sunscreen and drink plenty of water. Most importantly, have fun and go with an open mind. You never know what you might see.

How does celebrating one sexual preference "celebrate diversity"?
Pride is not just about a single sexual preference. The term that is often used is GLBTQ: Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer. You may count 5 sexualities in such a term but if you know any transgender or bisexual or queer people, you know that these words cannot even begin to encompass the infinite possibilities of love.
But , really, that's all one preference; consistent homosexuality and occasional.
Are there really "infinite possibilities"? - No, not as long as we maintain social standards having to do with "love" (let's be realistic, sex) only being okay between consenting adults.
Also, if all y'all are born homosexual ( or GLBT ), then what is there to be proud of? You are celebrating genetic happenstance if that's true..
hmmmm... "celebrating genetic happenstance" aka celebrating life. yeah, that just sounds atrocious. we're much better off forgetting the pleasures of life. let's just kill each other instead.
it seems, LP, that you are just plain jealous and have nothing better to do than to bash chicagos " gay pride parade " .....its not only celebrating homosexuality, its celebrating life,and love, homosexual or not. if youve ever been to a gay pride parade, youd notice that everyone there are not only gay, one year i took my mother and father! its a celebration of life period. if you have a problem celebrating life, and love then you have some serious issues . gay pride is celebrated because many people, like you LP, feel the need to let all the non-gay people know, that we are people too, but we just like to celebrate it since most close minded people can see theres more than just the eyes can see, and we deserve the same rights, the same protection, as straight people. if you dont find this educational, then i suggest you start a straight pride parade. lets just see how many people participate in that. i dont see anyone bitching about st patricks day parade, or memorial day parade.......so whats up LP? i think you just need chill out and keep your one dimensional comments to yourself because they are insignificant and worthless. have a great summer, gay or not!
and jason.........great replies to LPs close-mindedness! i hope you had a great time at the parade jason! i couldnt go, im too sick to attend, and if i did go, i would be in bed for a week, but you know what, id rather have one spectacularly GREAT day and then spend 5 days in bed instead of staying at home wishing i was at the parade all day !!!!!!
I not only went to the parade, but I went to the party in the Ann Sather's parking lot afterwards and had a lovely time ... and I'm not even gay. Enjoy life there LP
