What’s Another Way To Say ‘Silly’? Daley's In The Market For One

By Alicia Dorr in News on Jun 1, 2006 9:59PM

Ridiculous? Mad? Childish? Inane? Those are all the synonyms for “silly” we lazily right-clicked to find in the Word document. Mayor Daley didn’t have a document the other day, though, okay? So maybe he said “silly” about 20 times in 10 seconds? Big deal, big deal, big deal, big deal, big deal!

He busted out the word when asked about whether Skyway tollbooths were staffed to assure smooth sailing for gaenemy.jpghis family trip to the summer home in good ‘ol M-I. He replied with five “silly”’s. Oh, and one “silliness.” The reporters, most likely barely able to hold in their bubbling laughter, pushed further – resulting in nearly 10 more “silly”’s.

Then, because the press conference couldn’t be any MORE absurd, he called a reporter “Baldheaded.” And then called that silly.

The Tribune account of the conference brought up a bunch of other Daleyisms, like the time he called “guacamole” “glacamole” while saying he loved the stuff. Or the several times he’s offered to take off his pants or shorts when questioned.

As crazy as these little colloquialisms might seem, we are thankful for them. At least we get regular laughs. We don’t get regular laughs that turn into sobs like those of people in Detroit, who’s Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick throws parties and buys cars instead of, you know, taking care of the city. Or the awkward laughs that turn into even more awkward laughs from Seattle residents when they saw their Mayor’s new “Committee to Save Big Ugly Things” campaign video (cough) and election violations (cough, cough).

Long story short, there’s a lot of things we can “scrootinize” Mayor Daley for. Well, we were going to make another “silly” joke, but we decided to just leave it at “scrootinize” because it’s funnier.
