Did Kanye West Just Bomb on SNL?

Kanye just completely ganked his second performance on Saturday Night Live. He started "freestyling" on "Everything I Am," and boy was it not pretty. Time to start trolling for video. Thoughts?

I think he did bomb...at first. His freestyle was a little choppy but I think he pulled it off. Freestyling is hard and Kanye is pretty good at it. If I were to screw up in front of millions of people I would freeze and pee myself (like Ashley Simpson) I think Kanye deserves to be called the best rapper of all time to appear on SNL on September 29th. Ya heard???

Actually SNL bombed and Kanye was the only entertaining thing all night. His first performance was awesome... and he did screw up his rap, but he was cool, admitted to it without skipping a beat and still kept going. At least he wasn't lipsyncing like 95% of TV performances.

I tivoed that and watched it this morning. First off, I was wondering why, the entire week, the SNL promos weren't saying "LeBron James and musical guest, Kanye West" but rather "LeBron James and special guest Kanye West." He was thrown into skits and then performed twice. His first performance I felt was decent but he somehow managed to do a medley of both of his current singles. This whole time I was watching that I was thinking "Is Lorne Michaels really letting him perform this long?".

Then the second performance. That freestyle thing went on for FAR too long and it made for what seemed like a 6 minute performance.

Kanye, we know you have the #1 album in the country, you've been on every TV show and awards ceremony in the last 3 weeks to let everyone know that.

Also, by no means am I railing on Kanye. He's talented as shit and knows the music business far better than most "artists" out there now. His methods however, I'm not so big on.

I hate to say it, but I think he bombed on his "freestyle" attempt. I appreciated the effort, though.

Kanye West does well with scripted raps, for sure this will make him stand out as another pop star crafted by some company. Bad ass enough to appear cool but not to scare away the white teens buying his albums. His freestyle on SNL proves he belongs in the paradigm of Hillary Duffs and not among real rappers like black sheep, nice & smooth, milk dee, epmd, beastie boys or biz markie etc.

I agree with all of your point Griffin...but shit, honestly, his skit made me laugh.

people still watch saturday night live?

I thought it was kind of endearing.

And Guest #6, Kanye wasn't crafted by the biz, he grew through its ranks via his solid production skills, not his rapping talent.

Video is here (plus his funny skit):

He and the show sucked as bad the Bears. At least the Bears have a good excuse.

I was watching "SNL" last night, and thinking the SAME exact thing..."did Kanye just screw up on live television?" I guess in a sense, it was better of him to keep free-styling, rather than just running off the stage...but...his free-style was horrifying. Maybe it's too much for me to assume that most rappers are good on their feet and if a situation presents itself where they have to free-style, they'd do it well?

Another thing is...it is HIS song...he wrote it, I'm guessing he produced it as well...you'd think that he'd be more inclined to know his songs...but his excuse was that he "forgot his rhymes 'cuz his rhymes is so complicated" or something like that....which...to me is no excuse.

I really like Kanye as a rapper. His little bitch session on the VMA's was...really sad, though, but he did get a little respect back fro me when he was able to poke fun at himself for being such a sore loser...but then he crashed and burned on that free-style. Again...I like Kanye's music, I like him as a rapper. I even like his "rhymes," as it were, but...as a person, he just seems to have one hell of a bark and very little bite to back it up.

Freestyling is fake anyway...why do you care?

Ganked? It's been a while since I've used the term, but I didn't think you could gank yourself. Perhaps the definition expanded when I wasn't looking.
Chicagoist doesn't care about black people.

Why does anyone watch this lousy show anymore? It hasn't been funny in 15 years.

Kanye's performance was raw and unpolished, yes, but refreshing... not to mention the first time I've seen something "live" on SNL in years. TV needs more moments like this.

And didn't you catch the line, Margaret: "The blogs they try to 'dis me." Is that all you can do for one of Chicago's finest?

i saw the dress rehersal live and he messed up then to. he really isn't a lyricist he is more of a producer. he is terrible of the top of the dome. jayz or biggie would have killed it.
