In a completely heartbreaking story, 10-year-old Arthur Jones was shot and killed yesterday afternoon in Englewood. Jones, a fifth-grader at Oliver Holmes Elementary School who just had his class picture taken, was walking with his friends at around 4:30 on Garfield and Halsted when they heard gunshots. Jones started running towards his house, but he was shot in the neck. He died shortly thereafter at the hospital.
According to ABC7
Investigators are saying that they are continuing to talk to a number of people, that there are no persons of interest, no one is in custody and no arrests have been made. They are hoping to get some kind of clue from someone who will call and give them a tip or from that surveillance video, but they haven't said if those cameras have yielded anything worthwhile.
Jones's mother described him as a loving kid who wanted to be a pastor, and she begged anyone with information to come forward.

Where is all of the outrage from the community leaders over their own people covering for gangbangers that killed a little boy??
Had this been a police officer that shot a known gangbanger, all of the 'pastors' would have been out in full force claiming he was a good boy with dreams of being a doctor - and don't mind that pesky criminal record, gang tattoos and gun.
The double standards that exist here are incredible.
You didn't even bother to read both articles before sticking your foot in your mouth. Besides man what do you care as long as teh blax don't come up to see you in Lincoln Park.
Wow Navin, white guilt must hurt you pretty bad huh?
Over thirty people were there, yet nobody saw anything. I work for the Trib and know all about the story, and also know what angle we always choose to run with, and what interviews with cops we seemingly always leave out.
It's a sick and sad loss, but Englewood is so far gone that stories like this aren't shocking anymore. If you think that another hand-wringing session from the great and the good is going to make a difference, go to Englewood. See the burned out buildings, that people still live in, the abandoned cars, the dealer doing their business right out in the open, the guys clearly packing and posing. The cops drive through but what are they going to do?
No one wants to address the problems of Englewood for real. No jobs, no community to speak of, abandoned buildings and poverty that rivals Appalachia. Jesse and Al and all the usual shake-down artists can camera-grab all they like, it's not getting better there.
this is a shame... I hope they find them before more crap like this happens.
for what it's worth, tonyb's right on.

Pathetic, anyone who disagrees with you obviously has a case of 'white guilt'...so...what's your excuse for your obvious rage towards these communities? Seriously, you see a sad story like this and the first thing you want to do is rip into people, I'd say you're less bummed about hearing that a child was murdered and more excited about having an excuse to air your prejudices. In the papers and on the local news I saw footage of "pastors" (your emphasis) condemning the shooting and begging for people to come forward with info in addition to offering up rewards. Could it be that these people are scared of coming forward for fear of being shot themselves? It says a lot that somebody who works for the trib is too dimwitted to recognize the difference between being shot by a criminal and being shot by a cop. It doesn't take a dumbass to tell that somebody's going to be more outraged if a cop robs their house vs. a criminal.
