The Long Halloween

By Tankboy in Arts & Entertainment on Oct 30, 2007 2:15PM

Tired of Halloween yet? We've been celebrating "Christmas for Adults" since some time last week and admit that the parade of costumes is starting to turn into one long mental blur. But we ain't complaining; oh no! We love it.

2007_10_scott_lucas.jpgOne tradition we were afraid we were going to miss this year was the annual Local H-led Halloween show at Double Door. When we heard last year was Scott Lucas and company's swan-song, we admit we were a bit bummed. Sure, it seems like every club now hosts a deluge of local acts going cover band to entertain the masses every Halloween, but the Double Door party is the granddaddy of the movement.

It turns out Double Door decided to go ahead with the tradition sans Local H with mixed results. Most of the bands involved did a mighty fine job mimicking their idols, but the bill was a little too heavy on the less poppy rock and metal, making it hard for the throngs of girls dressed up like bunnies, the four pairs of Blues Brothers, and the two Amy Winehouses, to get their sing-along on. It was loads of fun, don't get us wrong, it just wasn't quite the same.

So we were pleased to see that Lucas is playing a Halloween show at Debonair tonight. It seems he isn't letting his Halloween tradition die, he's just retooling it for the next decade. In an event hosted by Double Door's Sean Mulroney, he'll be joined by his cohorts in The Cold Space — Tom Szidon and Randy Payne — to rip through an evening of Halloween-themed covers. Expect such varied compositions as Iron Maiden's "The Number Of The Beast," Talking Heads' "Psycho Killer," and "The Theme From The Munsters" to wend their way into the set tonight. We also expect the room to be packed, so even though the band doesn't kick off until 10:30 or so, you might want to grab your own slice of personal space sometime before that.

And then there's still tomorrow night to think of ... does that mean we have to come up with another costume?!

Scott Lucas and the Cold Space plays Debonair tonight at 10:30 p.m. There will also be ticket giveaways to Deboniar's 1-year private anniversary show with Lupe Fiasco and Kill Hanna.
