What Could be More Exciting...

...than Ed Smith's video blog? As alderman of the West Side's 28th Ward, Smith has a reputation as (sort of) an independent. Coming into office with Harold Washington in 1983, Smith was behind the smoking ban, has pushed for federal prosecution of former police commander Jon Burge, and generally annoys Mayor Daley. Now he wants to be Cook County Recorder of Deeds.

As The Reader's Mick Dumke pointed out, this election may be the Year of the Anti-Toddler, and Smith is trying to get in on that action, running on a sexy platform of greater transparency, a "culture of customer service" and bringing "vision and leadership back to the Recorder’s Office". For Ed Smith's take on his campaign, check out his blog.

As much as I use to dislike Smith, I am now pretty impressed with his "voice", especially in these times. Also I think he has authored at least one romance crime novel, which makes him the first I think alderman novelist.

I believe this is just Ed Smith doing a Bill Beavers. He wants a city aldermans pension and a cook co. paycheck. The recorder of deeds job is a joke and it shouldnt be an elected office. Smith is a decent alderman but this seems like a blatant attempt to cash in and do some double dipping.

I believe this is Smith pulling a Bill Beavers he wants an aldermans pension and a Cook Co. paycheck. The recorder of deeds office should not be an elected office anyway it should be held by a proffesional not a politican. Smith who seems to be a decent alderman (by chicago standards) is just doing things the chicago way get a pension from the city a paycheck from the County and double dip.
