Google unveiled a new chat status the other day: invisible. If you sign in as such, you can see your regular contact list of who's online, but they can't see you.

Really struggling to see a Chicagoist connection here...
People in Chicago use the internet.
NOT ME!!!
People in Chicago follow McCain's campaign, but you have certainly dropped the blackout curtains on that whole "fucking lobbyists" business.
And a way better, more hilarious take on this was on Gawker.com this weekend.
Google also has an office here in town.
eventually, everyone will be signed on as invisible and the internet will be silent. only then will the apocalypse truly be imminent.
And some people in Chicago no doubt have heard of Google. Of course...how could I have been so blind? I thought it was going to be something far more insidious, like yuppies using invisibility to obscure their continuing ruinous incursion into Logan Square. Thanks for clearing that up!
I just wear a dirty, tight, V-neck white-T and don't shower every time I need to hipster-masquerade. Works every time.
/me [Invisible]
Did it work?
Isn't there a rumor that Google is bidding (invisibly) to buy Chicago?
so, is the argument that when a post is not about chicago its a waste of your time to read it? because if reading it is a waste of your time, commenting about it seems like kind of a waste of time too.
@evelyn:
No, the point is that Chicagoist REFUSES to post about certain topics and then claims it is because they "have nothing to do with Chicago". Then shit like this gets posted that is a) retarded on its face and b) has nothing to do with Chicago, which according to the site's own writer, is a pre-req for getting something posted.
Jeez. It is pretty simple.
What is it that we've "refused" to post about?

Please see Rob Christopher's comment.
Also, I don't trust anyone who has two first names as an entire name.
I think invisible chat has more do with Chicago than that McCain story.
Who makes those distinctions? YOU?!
Are you suggesting that because more people in Chicago MAY use google chat than follow the McCain campaign, then this story is more deserving? Seriously?
Why does INVISIBLE chat have more to do with Chicago? WHY?!
Both, equally, have nothing to do with Chicago.
My point is, that is a stupid, baseless argument.
Why don't you just have the guts to say, "we have writers and editors that arbitrarily decide content based on what they want to write about. "Chicagoist" means that we all LIVE Here" or some bullshit instead of backing into retarded justifications.
P.S. this site is facist. I am only hear to annoy Spook and take down matty at Trivial Pursuit.
hear=here
facist=fascist?
@Spav1:
You can have Spook and Matty. You, however, have to answer to me!
@Spav1, et al: As a friendly helper: you can link directly to specific comments by right-clicking on the number or date for each comment. So to get to Rob's comments you could just do this.
Ps. Spav1 you inspire me greatly to contribute as well. Keep it up.
I am a fan of "the google", and I use gchat. I actually like the post and would have otherwise never noticed the invisible option if they didn't post it.
Much like a newspaper if you don't like the post, don't read it.
I would expect this stupid post from Gapers Block...but from Chicagoist?!
Thanks Ed! (Hope you weren't being sarcastic)
Chicagoist Editors: Please note this comment, as not only am I a prolific commentor, but I INSPIRE contributions.
Spav1, no sarcasm at all. However, I must warn you that I think we may be competing for the same prizes :)
