Food & Wine's 2008 Go List Revealed: Chicago Among Best Restaurant Cities in The World (But You Knew That Already)

2008_04_food_and_wine.jpgFoodandwine.com just announced their "Go To List 2008," where they list their top ten restaurant cities in the world, ten up and coming restaurant cities, and 300 dining destinations around the world. It should come as no surprise that our broad-shouldered city ranked #8. That's behind Tokyo, Paris and New York, but ahead of Stockholm and Vancouver. Credit where credit is due, Vancouver still has better skiing and gentlemens clubs.

Food & Wine's "Go List" of local destination restaurants include Blackbird, Bonsoirée, Custom House, The Gage, Spiaggia, Table Fifty-Two, and Takashi. Not much to quibble with that list, either.

'Course, lists are merely opinions, and we all know the old adage about opinions. Leave yours, along with other restaurant suggestions, in the comments, please.

in the realm of fine dining money, i'm poor. i've never been to any of these places all y'all foodies are always raving about. blackbird. alinea. schmefy schmepf. i'm not going to say i'm not jealous, because i hate to miss out on stuff. i always want to know what everyone's talking about.

but i *will* say that if you're looking for a fair amount of good quality diner food at a really good price, go to the hollywood grill. it's everything you could want ... lots of food, low prices, career waitresses, and great people watching. you get soup with a deluxe!

i don't think that's the kind of restaurant you're looking for, but i'm keeping it real.

Actually, of that list for Chicago, Custom House and Bonsoirée are very good for their value. I loved Takashi, but recommend the small plates

i wonder if the opening of the restaurant formerly known as Rosscoe's Chicken and Waffles had anything to do with bumping up Chicago's ranking

Where is the list

Click the Food and wine link in the post, matty.

You forget to mention Frontera Grill. I've dined at Topolobampo and it was FANTASTIC (and worth the hefty $$). Can you spend $29 on enchiladas anywhere else in the city?

its nice that Frontera and Spiaggia are on a list covered with newbie hits...
Have Japonais, Bin 36, Trotters been covered before?

Obligatory Hot Doug's reference for the budget-conscious.

Chuck, I dunno, but I recently had dinner at Custom House and had a very poorly prepared skate wing that really took that place down a notch for me. The food there can be very spotty, I think. I've had great experiences at all McClain's joints otherwise.

Oh, and The Gage? Really? I dunno. I just ate there for lunch, and I didn't leave it thinking I had just eaten at Chicago "must-dine" kind of place.

Anyone else?
