Come Sale Away

2008_05_weekendsale.jpgSure, we’re all about blowing our stimulus package [Ed note: Dirty!], but that doesn’t mean we’re not into stretching a buck. We found a few shopping events going on this weekend that are a bargain-hunter's paradise.

American Science & Surplus Annual Scratch and Dent Sale: When we think “scratch and dent,” appliances are the first thing that pop into mind. But American Science and Surplus on Milwaukee is slashing prices on pretty much everything but the kitchen sink. They sell everything from hardware to toys and crafts to bells and whistles. Some of it may be a little roughed up, but at discount prices, it still does the job.

American Science & Surplus is located on at 5316 N. Milwaukee and in Geneva, IL. Sale runs Friday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday, May 18th 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Ravenswood Manor Annual Garage Sale: This 'hood is throwing the mother of all rummage sales. The sale spans blocks and pretty much covers the entire neighborhood. Seriously, check out this map. Visit this Sunday to find your treasure among the trash.

Sunday, May 18, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Free.

Retail Shops on the Move: If you need to update your work wardrobe, now's the time. Paul Stuart, currently located in the Hancock Building, is moving, and therefore unloading. The brand specializes in mens and womens suits that usually retail in the 4-digit price range, but starting this weekend the merch is half price or less.

Paul Stuart is located at 875 N. Michigan Avenue. Closes for relocation on June 15.

Sadly Flirt, one of our fave Lakeview boutiques will be closing at the end of this month, but that means we’ll be able to score some of their high-end items for less. Designer pieces including denim (even Hudson and Rock n' Republic) will be on sale for about 30% off, with pricing dropping as the month goes on. Glass countertops and mirrors are also for sale, which you can probably pair up with something from the Scratch and Dent.

Flirt is located at 2449 N. Southport. Closes on May 31.

Is the governor participating? His house is right there.

Any store that has a section EXCLUSIVELY FOR ROBOT PARTS (AS&S) gets my vote for "best store ever."

Oooh, sounds like a great time to stock up on my nerd gear. The wife is going to dig my new safe suit.
