Construction on Spire Halted

Even as the two-story penthouse has been sold, construction on the Spire has been halted for the time being. Officials blame the slowing economy for the halt but say condo sales continue and that the building will still be completed by 2012 as scheduled. For now, it remains just a hole in the ground, kind of like that fort I meant to build in my backyard when I was 10 years old. [via Gapers Block]

Um, Marcus posted the GB link and attributed them as the source. How is this different than usual?

Just worried about your jobs tank, I hadn't noticed you have been using the competition.

At least Ty Warner has a $40M hole in the ground to keep all of his money.

I think (as I stated earlier) the dev is just waiting to find out about the 2016 Olympics venue. It Chicago is announced construction will begin in earnest.

dopplerd: and if it isn't, they'll just scrap the whole thing? that's dumb.

No Olympics they will just cut the tower by a third.
