On Wednesday, we asked you to tell us what you thought Joe Six-Pack American, the mythical and mysterious "sixth child" of Sarah Palin, looked like. Based in part on the comments readers left on the original posting announcing this project, and on my own beliefs, here is my interpretation.
In the event you can't read any of the text (my usual art photographer, Jean-Claude, was sick this week):
The newspaper is "Crap News."
The six-pack is "40 Cola" brand, which combines the "big gulp" concept with the six-pack.
The sash says, "culture warrior."
The Burger King crown says "JSPA."
And that's a Labrador Retriever.

Friday Afternoon Diversion

joe 6 pack = racist democrat
Joe Six Pack is to 2008 what Soccer Mom was in 2000.
A stupid, irrelevant dempgraphic that gives fodder to the talking heads as they give increasingly unhinged commentary in a "first past the post election".
We will never hear this term again.
I don't think I've ever hated a Republican as much as I hate Sarah Palin...I imagine this is how the Conservatives feel about Hillary Clinton though.
But Joe Six Pack isn't even a new term. It's been around for a long time. And usually, it wasn't meant in a flattering way. Must have taken that long for it to make it up to Alaska.
Uhm Striiiiiiike Three Thoms! You're out! Hillary is hyper intelligent, while Palin is dumb as a empty box of Lemon Heads. Now on the count of three say it with me.....
I ditto mike thorns contempt for Palin, and I do know some repub friends who feel the same contempt for Hilary.
But I've got to say, that when I was watching Michele Obama being interviewed by Jon Stewart the other night it almost brought tears to my eyes, not because of anything she said that was overwhelmingly meaningful but because she was so thoughtful and kind and really generous towards McCain.
What a counterpoint to Cindy McCain who is spreading her vitriol and lies. Michele Obama, as well as her husband, really know how to stay above it all.
Michele is the woman who should be First Lady. No doubt about it.
OK, now for Josephine Six-Pack. I am thinking of Florence from The Jeffersons.
haha, funny picture. I'm glad we're such educated and cultured folk who don't fit in to stereotypes so easily...
mike thoms: it's remarkable how many of my friends seem to have an outright HATRED for the woman. it's something i've never seen before. i've never even heard people talk about W. that way.
and re: michelle, ingrid -- yeah. i know. that's what i've been saying to people this whole time about them. that they're classy. they're refusing to play the same kind of game that mccain/palin are. and i think that's another reason why they're ahead.
my mom, who lives in WI and who was previously undecided before the first debate, said things like 'i liked the way he [obama] complimented him [mccain]." she thought mccain was 'mean and cruel,' and that really bothered her.
so, not everyone sees that as a good thing.
This recent use of the previously-dismissive term 'Joe Six-pack,' and the fact that Son Volt will be playing here on Sunday (and I can't go -- damnit!) reminded me of their great song from a couple years ago, 'Joe Citizen Blues.' 'Joe Six-pack' is a myth. He's as tangible as 'main street.'
* * * *
He left his dreams in the alley
Betrayed by false beliefs
Checks the time on his watch again
This world is spinning into overdrive
History is happening now
Lessons of abject failure
Do the leaders sleep while thousands die
To protect from weapons of imagination
These Joe Citizen blues
Joe Citizen blues
Joe Citizen blues
And the world spins around with head bowed down
At one thousand seventy miles an hour
When opportunity means firing a gun
Looks a lot like past empires
The ruling class doesn't fight the wars
With stock options and fortunes to be made
More reason for hope in the future
When this present is almost past
Sweet black crude and Red White and Blue
May the innocent find the answer
To these Joe Citizen blues
Joe Citizen blues
Joe Citizen blues
And the world spins around with head bowed down
At one thousand seventy miles an hour
Nice job, lauri! :)
