Balfour Arrested On Hudson Murder Charges

2008_12_01_balfour.jpgFive weeks after the October 24 murder of Jennifer Hudson's mother, brother, and nephew, Chicago Police have finally arrested Hudson's former brother-in-law William Balfour in connection with the murders. He has been the prime suspect in the case since the start; he was already being held in a state corrections facility on parole violation charges stemming from a police investigation into his possible role in the murders and was transferred to Chicago Police custody once the arrest warrant was issued.

While I'm sure many people are outraged that it took so long, I for one am glad that the Chicago police, for once, did not succomb to the pressure of getting the guy and waited until they had sufficient evidence to make the arrest. All too often in recent memory has the Chicago Police been too quick on the draw, forcing themselves and the State's Attorney to follow through on a number of prosecutions of innocent people, to avoid admitting a mistake. We cannot both chide them for that and chide them for proceeding with caution in making an arrest. Pick one. You either want cautious, careful cops or you want action.

Loved how the mother was shown on television this morning telling Daley to start writing the check for apparently the "wrongful arrest" of her son. She said she didn't want to wait years to get paid like some other cases.

Yeah, the whole "cart before the horse" thing...
