Brawl At Cook County Jail Causes Lockdown

A brawl in a maximum security wing at Cook County Jail is on lockdown after a fight Tuesday night injured seven inmates. Several inmates suffered non-life threatening "puncture" wounds from shanks and a few suffered some head injuries. The brawl broke out in a room where inmates are allowed to watch television. A jail spokesman said a search of cells for more weapons is ongoing.

The following is a really interesting article, by Mansfield Frazier, about how it's not the guards that run the prison, but those clever shank making inmates.

Interesting, I.

Actually this reminds me about a story I read in the village Voice about a teen discovered beat death (by three members of the Bloods)while locked up at Rikers for repeated curfew violations. He was housed in max. security and it took them hours to discover that he was killed.

Not to mention that story from last week about the beating death at the downtown jail because one inmate called another a snitch.

the best part about getting shanked at Cook County Jail is that it's a breeding ground for MRSA.
