Ain't No Wedding Brawl Like A Skokie Wedding Brawl

Ain't No Wedding Brawl Like A Skokie Wedding Brawl

Wedding brawls are nothing new; just Google the term and you'll come up with plenty of examples for a surely-in-the-works TV special, "When Nuptials Go Bad." But this one is unique for two reasons: that it happened close to home and the casualties involved. Six people were injured and one person stabbed when all hell broke loose at a wedding reception at a Skokie restaurant. The brawl broke out around 1 a.m. this morning as the mid-week wedding party was winding down at Zhivago's Restaurant and Banquet. The incident, called a "domestic-related" incident by police, apparently began between two men who were arguing inside the restaurant. Ever mindful of proper wedding etiquette, the pair took their beef outside where the suburban version of Road House broke out. The Sun-Times reports the restaurant's general manager as claiming that "broken glass, possibly from a beer bottle was used during the fight." All six of those injured were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries though we assume that'll change very soon. Also unknown? Whatever in the blue hell caused the fight in the first place. We're going to assume booze was (heavily) involved in the decision and, just for kicks, let's say it probably started over an argument about ketchup on hot dogs. more ›

Joliet Brawl Over A Parking Spot

We know competition for parking spots can be fierce, but we've never heard of anything like this. Five people were arrested at a Joliet apartment building Tuesday afternoon after a fight broke out over a parking spot. Yes, a parking spot. Jasmine Reardon apparently parked in the wrong parking spot, allegedly prompting a beat-down from two other women. Police were called and woman was arrested while another fled. But she came back for a second go-round a short time later. more ›

Fourth Charged In Beating Death, Vigil Held

After three teens were charged yesterday in last week's beating death of 16-year-old Derrion Albert, a fourth teen was also charged: 16 year-old Eric Carson. Neighbors also held a vigil yesterday, attended by around 250 people, that got a bit heated at times. An activist going by the name Queen Sister shouted through a bullhorn, "The mayor is out fighting for the Olympics, and our youth are here fighting for their lives!" more ›

Brawl Video Surfaces

Video of a violent brawl that resulted in the death of one teen was caught on tape and FOX 32 obtained the video caught on a cell phone camera. Four students were injured and 16-year-old Derrion Albert was killed in the brawl. Be warned, the footage is pretty graphic and harrowing. At about 48 seconds in, one student - no word if it's Albert - is beaten over the head with a two by four. Later in the video, Albert's body is seen but blurred out of the video by Fox, as others rush to his aid and carry his body out of the way. more ›

Thanks to commenter tc3 who points us to this video which very clearly shows Castillo's throw triggering the entire brawl. more ›
