White Sox Plan Special Edition Obama Caps

2009_01_obama_sox_caps.jpg The White Sox may never be able to surpass the Cubs as most popular team in town, but having our new Commander in Chief as a fan has certainly given the Sox some new found cache. Since Barack Obama's election as president, sales of Sox caps have surged 25 percent. So it comes as little surprise that the South Siders are playing up their new status as First Team. The Sox have already launched a First Fan page on their website.

And the team is now trying to launch a special edition Obama Sox cap. The familiar black cap, enhanced with Obama's campaign logo and/or name would be sold through official venues like the ballpark and MLB.com website. Proceeds would fund local charities. While we were disappointed to learn these won't be available at this weekend's SoxFest, the team hopes to get the OK from Obama in time to have the hats available before Spring Training.

Leave it to Sox mngmt to find a way to soil Obama's fandom. They gave him a bunch of new hats because they thought his old hat looked ratty or something. Obama was like, thanks but no thanks, I like my old hat.

anything to make some money I guess.

I'll buy one of these.

That said, I think us Sox fans are going to have a hard time dealing with our team's sudden popularity. I think we're going to have to get used to seeing Sox caps on newfound fans all over the nation. It's going to be weird.
