Mole de Mayo Spices Pilsen Saturday

mole_logo.jpg We love a good mole here at Chicagoist, although not so much to follow Geno Bahena and his traveling freak show of moles from restaurant to restaurant. Seriously, does the man have a wanderlust or is his business acumen just not that good?

Digressing, Zocalo Plaza in Pilsen (18th and Paulina) is the place to be from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday for the inaugural Mole de Mayo Festival. Organized by the 18th Street Development Corporation, the festival is pitting some of the best neighborhood restaurants and caterers in a judged cook-off. Participants include FIG Catering, Fogata Village, Mundial and Nuevo Leon. The celebrity judges include Alpana Singh and Audarshia "312 Dining Diva" Townsend. entertainment will also be at the festival, including lucha libre wrestlers from 2-3 p.m.

There is a $1 suggested donation for all comers. Our own Kate Gardiner will post a recap of the festival Monday.

Thanks for the heads-up! Does anyone know where I can find fresh, quality mole pastes (i.e., not the stuff in the jars)?
