Kuma's Pats Itself On Back With Block Party

As if Kuma's Corner couldn't get any more packed on the weekend, now the venerable burger/beer/metal/biker kitsch bar is throwing a block party to celebrate its fourth anniversary, which should just send fans of Kuma's monster burgers into DEFCON 1 mode.

The shenanigans kick off at noon Saturday. Kuma's will be serving free food and bands will play all day and into the night, culminating with an appearance by underground rock legends CLUTCH. Baroness and Lionize are also on the bill.

I understand from a post on Chicago Reader that the free food is limited to hot dogs and brats. Important to note as I started salivating at the thought of free burgers from Kumas.

So are you saying should we start lining up now?

Sounds like an artery clogging good time.

Great use of the word "shenanigan". Is it Shenanigan Thursday today?

cf. Chicagoist article on obesity, Chicago

It's going to be a nightmare at Kuma's. It's already an overhyped nightmare and now they're giving away free food? Every goddamn person in the city who's even heard of Kuma's will be there trying to get free food.

Cool people like myself will know to stay away

I first went there no long after they opened. The music was like listening to cats die after a long illness, but the food is just wonderful. The "Sleep" burger they served around thanksgiving is one of the most perfect burgers I've ever eaten.

"Sleep" the band the burger's named after are great too.

Jerusalem is an amusing (and fucking awesome) album. Way louder than dying cats.

Good for Kuma's—always nice to see a local establishment doing something for its fans.

My first band played with Sleep back in '93 in Berkeley Ca. Good times and nice fellows!

great.

the shitty music kuma's subjects its patrons with will be blasted into my neighborhood by live bands. Clutch -- yeah, they sure sound amazing -- cant wait for that.

Yeah, all those people lining up to be subjected to that music. Is there a relief fund we can donate to for them?

Y'know what would be better on that stretch of Belmont? Another quickie mart or better yet just an empty retail location.

Time to move bozo.

no, thanks. I like my neighborhood just fine. I just think kuma's is overrated. If I were to wait in line for an hour to eat, I'd rather go down the street to Hot Dougs.

Aw, come on the whole "it's over-rated" is just a way of saying you're disappointed other people know about a place.

And we can agree over the fine encased meat my friend.

...and for real. Clutch sucks -- listen for yourself.

awful butt rock.

this place...is not worth the wait

Gerobobobobobdouchebag,

Clutch feels the power and the fury of the monster truck.

your just jealous

It's actually a great set of bands for street party thrown by a restaurant.

I remember when they had pasta. That was awesome.
