Patrick Kane Arrested

Blackhawks superstar Patrick Kane was arrested early Sunday morning, along with his cousin, after an altercation with a cabbie in his hometown of Buffalo. Allegedly, the dispute arose over 20 cents -- the cab driver handed back $1 from $15 on a $13.80 fare, but claimed he didn't have the coins to make exact change. According to the police report, James Kane tore the money from the driver's hand and both men began punching the him in the face and head. "They broke my glasses, they ripped my clothes ... all over 20 cents," cabdriver Jan Radecki said.

Haven't those boys ever heard of a tip? Is Kane, who earned well over $3 million last season, even cheaper than Scottie "No Tippin'" Pippen?

A witness saw the incident and called police, who charged the Kanes with second-degree robbery, a Class C felony, and fourth-degree criminal mischief and theft of services, both Class A misdemeanors. Probably not the type of behavior EA Sports had in mind when they made Kane their coverboy for NHL 10 recently. The former Calder Cup winner was expected to return to Chicago next week for the U.S. Olympic team's orientation camp at Seven Bridges Ice Arena in suburban Woodridge, in the hopes of making Team USA for the 2010 Olympics.

Kane's arrest adds to the list of missteps by the Blackhawks this off-season that caused them to make more news than the rest of the NHL combined. The team was late making qualifying offers to their restricted free agents, which cost the franchise millions and GM Dale Tallon his job. The team then signed Marian Hossa to a giant contract that drew scrutiny from the fans when it was announced he needed surgery and would miss the beginning of the season, and drew additional scrutiny from the league for it's supposed cap-bending financial structure.

Those two idiots must have been really blasted to argue & then fight over 20ยข!

And like you, I immediately was amazed that someone could be worse than No Tippin Pippen!

I usually try to look at these sports kids with a mind toward forgiveness and understanding, but there's no understanding this kind of stunt. I had a certain amount of respect for Kane up to this point, but this is the stunt of a redneck punk.

Rich, talented, popular... and apparently a huge douchebag. Way to go!

Seriously. Even people without money would give the cabbie $15 on a $13.80 fare. I guess it's good to know early that the "nice kid" routine was all an act.

What a jerk. Tough guy, beating up an old man and all.

It's even worse now that I've seen the old man on tv, just an old man. What a couple of tools.

I am going to play devil's advocate. Let's suppose, for a moment, that the old man was not telling the truth about the incident.

Remember, some people make things up. I am going to wait to hear Kane's side of the story before condemning him.

I thought it could be a cash grab by the cabbie at first, but the fact that a witness saw the event and called the police lends the story more credibility...

Looks like there is another side to the story per the Tribune. http://bit.ly/u2PLb More details on this story to come I am sure.
But continue with your assumptions about this so called tough guy jerk douchebag redneck toughguy punk.

The story you link does nothing to lesson the significance of Kane's actions. Kane still assaulted the guy and broke the guy's glasses over 20 cents, even if the cabbie says it was no big deal now that he knows who Kane is. There still is a witness to the event who's story has not changed. Nothing about this suggests my assumption about this tough guy jerk douchebag redneck toughguy punk is invalid.

and yet nothing supports your assumption. What if Pat Kane's lawyer comes back and says that this cabbie started the altercation by throwing a punch at them for whatever reason (not that i think that at all)? Until the process runs its course all we know is that Pat Kane was arrested and charged, but not convicted yet.

The statement of the cabbie and the witness taken with the fact that Kane was arrested by officers who evidently found just cause supports my assumption.

Please explain how punching an old man the fuck out over 20 cents is acceptable anywhere outside of the Magical Land of Douchebaggery.

who is to say it was really over 20 cents? You are taking the word of a guy that thinks they can "work things out"?

I find it interesting that a lot of so-called news outlets are only reporting on the robbery charge for the 20 cents, as though it's an "Odd News" kind of story, while totally ignoring the battery that took place.

Blackhawks=trainwreck. Prepare to get beat up by a bunch of old men wearing Red Wings jerseys, once again.

The old cabbie looked pretty beat up on one side of his face, so SOMEthing happened to him. And then he said (via videotaped interview on WGN this morning) they also took an extra hundred dollars he had in his hand that didn't belong to them. And NOW his lawyer (the cabbie's lawyer) is reportedly saying it's being blown out of proportion, which sounds like someone (Kane's folks? the Hawks? The NHL?) got to them and told them to downplay this, because it would be a pretty big black eye for a budding hockey star to not only beat up an old cabbie for 20 cents, but to steal a hundred bucks from him too.

The comments of the cab driver's own lawyer indicate that there is more to this story than first reported. Seems a bit harsh to resort to these generalizations about Kane's overall character when there is obviously a middle section that is missing from the story.

The comments from his lawyer indicate that the driver's version of events somehow changed to "no big deal" after the driver found out who Kane was. If anything, it makes it seem shadier.

hahahaha, arrogant little @#$#%&&* yep he knows who you are now......hahahahahaha

ps you little asshole Kane the cabbies gonna get one hell of a tip out of you now, hope you can afford it now!!

Dumb. Who was to say it was Patrick and not is cousin that hit the guy?
