Report: Sox Deal Getz, Fields to Royals

The 2009 Major League Baseball season has been over for about 12 hours and already reports are surfacing of some White Sox dealings. Per ESPN Chicago the NY Daily News is reporting that the Sox have sent infielders Chris Getz and Josh Fields to Kansas City in exchange for third basemen Mark Teahen. The Sox refused to comment on the story and Getz told ESPN, "I talked to some people with the team this morning. At this point, it's been characterized as a rumor."

While I think Josh Fields has a promising future, he never really gelled with the team, and Gordon Beckham made him less than redundant.

I am far more disturbed to see Chris Getz go, though. Getz was the kind of young talent who can play almost any position the White Sox really need. Sure Teahan's good, but like I said, we have Beckham ... and I don't want to see Beckham at 2nd. I don't think I like this trade.

I love the idea of this trade. I would be sad to see Getz go. One the plus side we could move Ramirez back to 2nd where he played better. Beckham to his natural position. I heard that we have another really good third basemen in the system. Maybe they plan on moving Teahen after this year to pick up a stellar first basement seeing that Konerko is nearing the end.

It's on the Sox site, so I assume it has passed the rumor stage now.

This is a stupid fucking trade. Plain and simple. Getz proved to be a ridiculously valuable asset for the Sox last year. Getz was 25/27 in stolen bases, with as much run production as you could hope for given his age. In Teahen the Sox have found a replacement for Jim Thome in strikeout leader.

Josh Fields, na na na na, hey hey, goodbye.

On a much more positive note, the Sox ALSO signed Mark Kotsay to a one-year deal.
