Blackhawks Trade Versteeg

Just days ago, Blackhawks GM Stan Bowman claimed that he didn't need to make any additional trades related to salary cap issues. He had already traded away Dustin Byfuglien, Brent Sopel, Ben Eager and Colin Fraser in the wake of the team's recent Stanley Cup victory. more ›

Bulls Draft Recap: It's All About The Cap Space

Bulls Draft Recap: It's All About The Cap Space

As we mentioned yesterday afternoon, just prior to the start of the NBA Draft the Bulls agreed to send Kirk Hinrich and their first round pick to the Washington Wizards. The Bulls get a future second round pick in return, but the move was made explicitly to clear up even more room under the salary cap. As a result, the selection of Frenchman Kevin Seraphin doesn't mean much -- he was likely drafted at Washington's request, and will officially go to the Wizards on July 8 when the deal can be completed. more ›

Bulls Introduce Thibodeau As Coach, Prepare for Draft

While his hiring was announced weeks ago, the Bulls formally introduced Tom Thibodeau as their new head coach on Wednesday at the Berto Center. Thibodeau comes to the Bulls after serving as an assistant coach for the Boston Celtics, who came within a game of winning the NBA Championship last week. While he came up just short of claiming a part of another Larry O'Brien trophy, Thibodeau checked out the Bulls' six pack. Fans and management hope he can help add more hardware to the case. more ›

Fire Sale Sox?

Fire Sale Sox?

As the White Sox continue to struggle through the first half of the season, it's beginning to look like the end for the last vestiges of that 2005 World Series team. ESPN's Buster Olney, author of the best blog ESPN has (if you're willing to shell out the cash), tweeted out the rumors this morning, reporting, "The perception of other teams is that Paul Konerko is available right now." But the speculation had already started. Yesterday evening, Bruce Levine posted on ESPN blog that it's only a matter of time before Sox fans would have to bid farewell to the likes of Konerko, A.J. Pierzynski, Bobby Jenks and Mark Buehrle. Some of the rumors, according to Levine: more ›

Report: Sox Deal Getz, Fields to Royals

The 2009 Major League Baseball season has been over for about 12 hours and already reports are surfacing of some White Sox dealings. Per ESPN Chicago the NY Daily News is reporting that the Sox have sent infielders Chris Getz and Josh Fields to Kansas City in exchange for third basemen Mark Teahen. The Sox refused to comment on the story and Getz told ESPN, "I talked to some people with the team this morning. At this point, it's been characterized as a rumor." more ›

Cubs Deny Bradley Talks With Jays, But...

The Chicago Cubs have denied they've been in talks with the Toronto Blue Jays about a trade that would send troubled outfielder Milton Bradley north of the border in exchange for Vernon Wells. But that doesn't mean the Cubs aren't looking to deal Bradley after only one year of his three-year, $30 million contract. ESPN reports that the Tampa Bay Rays (for Pat Burrell), Texas Rangers, and California Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (for Gary Matthews, Jr.) are potential destinations for Bradley. more ›

Shaq-to-Chicago Trade Rumors Swirl

Shaq-to-Chicago Trade Rumors Swirl

As word spread yesterday that Phoenix and Cleveland were working on a trade that would send Shaquille O'Neal to the Cleveland Cavs where he would presumably help out LeBron James, there were plenty of other teams being tossed around. Including our Bulls. Even though ESPN didn't list the Bulls as a major player in the "Shaq Sweepstakes" - and one has to wonder how much a winner the team that lands the 37-year-old O'Neal would really be - The Arizona Republic says otherwise. more ›

Sox After Abreu

Sox After Abreu

While there was no mention of Bobby Abreu at this past weekend's SoxFest -- and in fact a player of his caliber would seem to be the antithesis of what GM Kenny Williams claimed he was trying to do -- rumors persist that the White Sox are negotiating with the free agent Abreu on a one year, eight million dollar deal. Neither side is denying the talks. more ›

Cubs Over the Hill, but Weurtz Over

Cubs Over the Hill, but Weurtz Over

Continuing to re-work their roster ahead of the start of Spring Training in two weeks, the Cubs traded away two once promising pitchers in separate deals on Monday. The team announced that they traded the once promising lefty Rich Hill to Baltimore in return for a player to be named later. And to think it was only two years ago, the Cubs considered Hill to be one of their few untouchable pieces after he went 11-8 with a 3.92 ERA in '07. But then he lost his ability to throw strikes, which is apparently important when one's a pitcher, and spent the bulk of 2008 in the minors. more ›
