Men of Chicago: Madonna of 1991 Hates You.

Sorry, guys. I hate to be the one to tell you this, now-middle-aged men of Chicago, but you don't do anything for Madonna. At least, the version of her that was shooting "A League Of Their Own" back in the early '90s doesn't think much of y'all. Letters of Note brings us this handwritten letter from Madge, signed "Dita" as was her alter-ego at the time. ("Dita" went on to mastermind the Madonna "Sex" book.)

Here's her gentle appraisal of the local scene back in the day:

When God decided where the beautiful men were going to live in the world, he did not choose Chicago.

Yeah? Yeah? Well...you were in "Swept Away!" Oooh, sick burn! Sticks and stones, lady.

Geena Davis, Penny Marshall, and actresses everywhere also earned Madonna's ire, and learning how to play baseball & getting a tan equals "suffering." Life is hard for a music icon slumming it with the Hollywood set. In all fairness, we've been to Evansville, Indiana, where some of the shooting took place. I'd want to be at a New York fashion show too.
