Possible Break in "Honeybee" Murders

A fatal tanning salon robbery in Orland Park may have given Will County Sheriff's officials a break, and possible resolution, in the October "honeybee" murders in far suburban Beecher and Indiana.

Investigators are sending the revolver used in the robbery for ballistics tests to see if it was the same used in the murders. The suspect, 48-year-old Gary Amaya, lived south of Beecher, also drove a truck similar to the one the suspect in the murders drove.

Amaya was killed Saturday trying to rob an L.A. Tan when a customer who came in for his tanning appointment somehow managed to disarm Amaya. When Amaya moved toward the customer, he was shot twice and later pronounced dead at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

Let's hope Will County officials get it right this time. When the "honeybee" murders first occurred, they immediately centered their investigation on Lynwood police officer Brian Dorian (pictured). Dorian was later cleared in the investigation when his internet history on his computer placed him at his home at the time of the shootings.
