YAWN's “Toys” Video Spans Continents

The guys from YAWN sure know how to milk it. The local psych-pop four-piece released their self-titled debut EP back in 2009 and have been riding the wave since, even reviving the debut last May by releasing a remix of the EP. And now in 2011, they’ve released a video for the EP’s opening track, “Toys.”

The video, filmed in France, Germany, the U.S., Netherlands, and Czech Republic, depicts the story of a travelling pinwheel. Director and producer Eli Stonberg originally created it as simply a creative short film about pinwheels, but after hearing “Toys,” he decided the song fit well with the concept of his film. And we can’t disagree; the video’s brilliant colors and quirky content perfectly complement the pop melody’s shimmery synth and tropical beat. Check it out for yourself.

Keep your ears open for word of a full-length release due out later this year, and in the meantime, pick up a FREE digital copy of the debut EP over at YAWN’s site. You can also catch them play this Saturday at Metro as part of Tomorrow Never Knows, with headliners Tanlines and accompanying acts Reptar, Young Empires, and KID COLOR. And if you can’t make that show, they also play January 26 at the Empty Bottle, opening for Nightlands.

YAWN plays Saturday, January 15 at Metro, 3730 N Clark, 9 p.m., $15, 18+
