Warner Bros. Starts Casting Calls For New 'Superman'

More than a few blockbuster movies that have been filmed in Chicago. Last summer, Transformers invaded the Loop, but the new Superman movie will stay largely in the burbs when filming starts later this summer in and around the Chicago area.
The first of three casting calls was held in Naperville yesterday afternoon. How successful was the casting call? Very, and packed with a grab-bag of people:
The Naperville casting call drew aspiring actors, bored teenagers, wanna-be stage moms and curious suburbanites in search of a Hollywood adventure close to home. By 1 p.m., parking attendants estimated about 1,000 cars came into the lot, which usually holds 500 cars and remained filled most of the day. Casting officials weren't immediately available to provide an attendance figure.
The next casting call will be at Plano High School in Plano, Ill., (west suburbs) on June 22. The last casting call will be at Chicago Academy for the Arts on June 25, 2011. Although the casting calls are for non-speaking parts in the highly-anticipated Superman movie, the thought of being hired as an extra sharing screen time with the likes of Kevin Costner and Diane Lane (Clark Kent's parents) doesn't sound all that bad. Henry Cavill will be playing Clark Kent/Superman and Amy Adams is set to play Lois Lane. With Zack Snyder directing -- of 300, Watchmen and Sucker Punch fame -- perhaps you'd even get to see yourself in slow-motion. Christopher Nolan, who directed Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, is producing the new Superman movie.
