Dastardly's New "Villain" Video Filled With, Well, Dastardly Villains

Last December, alt-country up-and-comers Dastardly dropped their satisfactory May You Never EP, which we, in reference to lead-off track "Villain," said stood out from their fellow Americana-minded peers in "deceptively creepy ways."

Perhaps following that theme, the local sextet released a new video for "Villain" on Monday, and it's filled with all kinds of devious behavior and twirly mustaches. (Sadly, there are no shifty-eyed dogs, at least none that we saw).

Dastardly lead man Gabe Leibowitz told us via email that the clip was directed by Logan Hall, and was shot way back in February and March of this year. Leibowitz says the theater scenes were shot at Studio 773, while band scenes were shot in accordionist Sarah Morgan's attic. The result is a playful clip with touches of the surreal.

Watch it below. If you want to catch Dastardly live, they'll be at the South Stage at Wicker Park Fest, starting at 2:15 p.m. on Sunday, July 24.

That's not her attic, that's the independent nation of Fuck-You-Topia.

Dare I ask what the population of this sovereign nation is?

Saw Dasterdly do a bunch of honky tonk covers at the Whistler once, they're good. I should check out a live set of originals soon, possibly Sunday.

Based on the schedule posted on their Tumblr blog, it looks like Sunday will be their last show for at least a month or two: http://dastardlytheband.tumblr.... Carpe Dastardly, Elvis.
