Buehrle: No Hometown Discount for Sox

By Chuck Sudo in News on Nov 10, 2011 4:22PM

Mark Buehrle has moved from testing the free agent waters to setting the ground rules for negotiations with the White Sox, if Sun-Times Guillen Family Correspondent Joe Cowley is to be believed. Cowley reports, via Twitter, that he won't offer the Pale Hose a hometown discount for re-signing with the team.

Cowley also hints Buehrle holds a winning hand. In addition to visiting Ozzie Guillen and the Marlins earlier this week, as many as 10 teams are interested in the services of the durable, Gold Glove-winning southpaw. We know the Yankees, Red Sox and Rangers are interested in Buehrle's services and he's long teased switching to a Cardinals uniform during his stay at 35th and Shields.

The question now: if the Sox do come to the table with an offer that matches any Buehrle receives from another team, will he accept? Or will he sign with a championship-caliber team?
