Local Designer "Brands" Chicago's Neighborhoods

By Chuck Sudo in Arts & Entertainment on Dec 9, 2011 10:05PM

Graphic designer Steve Shanabruch has combined his loves for design and Chicago's neighborhoods to create a project where he designs "brands" for them.

Shanabruch writes:

"Some of these logos are based on personal experiences and intimate knowledge of certain neighborhoods (such as Beverly, where I grew up), but in most cases these logos come from inspiration gleaned from various sources, including online research and conversations with current and past residents."

Shanabruch admits that branding a neighborhood is subjective. But he nails Beverly and Pullman, while it appears he may have spoken with Dunning residents to come up with their slogan, while Rogers Park's logo draws from the history of the area.
If someone involved in city tourism were smart, they'd be talking to Shanabruch ASAP to enlist his services.

Shanabruch promises to post two or three new ones each week until he's covered all Chicago's community areas. You can also follow the Chicago Neighborhoods project on and Twitter.
