The Publican Has One Of "America's Best Brunches"

2011_11_15PublicanNapkin.jpg For once, we agree with a national publication's assessment of the Chicago dining scene. Or at least the tiny piece of it they decided to feature. Travel and Leisure has created a list of America's best brunches - and it's a genuinely diverse list. No city gets more than one, and Chicago's selection is The Publican, Paul Kahan's West Loop temple to pork and beer.

The Publican doesn't always come to mind when we're looking for brunch spots - in fact, we've heard many people express surprise when they find out that it even serves brunch. Trust us, not only does it serve brunch, it serves a pretty life-changing brunch. We'll even put up with the communal seating.

The dish that Travel and Leisure picked is one of our favorites: the red wine-poached eggs with La Quercia prosciutto. Right now, we could really go for their riff on pasta carbonara, made with (what else) pork belly. The complete brunch menu is below - it may make you start spontaneously eating everything in your office. After this listing, be extra sure to make reservations before you venture over to the West Loop.
