Guard Killed Last Night at River North Walgreens

Shortly before 10 p.m. last night, a 23-year-old security guard was shot and killed at the Walgreens at 315 W. Chicago Avenue. The Tribune reports that the shooter is believed to be a former store employee and ran off on foot after opening fire inside the Walgreens. The guard, whose name has not been released, was shot in the head and body, and his body was found outside the store next to a garbage can. The shooter also hit the side of a westbound #66 Chicago Avenue bus, but no other injuries are reported. No one is in custody.
