Obviously you are just children and do not understand the ballstics of a hollowpoint or sticking a defense weapon into a gut. There's nothing to miss and the hollowpoint expanding in the perps tissue absorbs the energy of the bullet leaving a nice big hole. Sure, you can wait a few minutes for the cops to arrive, if they do (think shortage), but remember that when seconds count, the cops are just minutes away.

I guess I don't blame you for thinking the way you do, you were taught to roll your eyes and shriek uncontrollably at the sight of a gun. That's ok, real men who aren't afraid to defend themselves will probably come to your aid anyway.

  • JoeChicago

I am glad to know that "real men" like you are out there protecting us. Sounds like someone is using a gun to compensate for other lacking matters. I actually don't know what scares me more, the kids who jumped the bus driver or gun nuts like you who want everyone to be armed.

  • BTFife

What scares you is taking responsibility for your own protection.

And please don't put words in my mouth, I never said I want everyone to be armed. I already pointed out above that people like BlueFairlane should not be, he exhibits dangerous fantasies about pointing guns at innocent people.

You, I'm not sure about, you seem unsure of yourself now, but maybe you'll feel differently about letting yourself become a victim when a violent crime comes to you or your family, and nobody comes running when you call for help. Think about it.

  • BTFife

Let me tell you how it would work then, since you can't figure it out. There's no need to point a gun at passengers as they board the bus, you would probably not have many customers that way. Instead, the driver carries a snub nosed 5 shot double action  revolver loaded with hollow point defensive rounds in a retention holster under his shirt or in his waistband. This type of gun would not require being cocked. Pulling the trigger would both cock and release the hammer. Nobody would need to know he is armed because the gun is concealed.

It is unlikely that all 4 perps could fit in the space next to the driver, and overpower him before he sticks the equalizer in the gut of the first perp and fires two shots. With that perp out of commision, the fight will probably be over because at that point perp number two would be fighting by himself against a armed driver. Perps 3 and 4 would be long gone after the first perp bought his dirt nap. Driver opens the door, kicks the bad guy to the curb, and continues on his route, living happily ever after.

  • JoeChicago

Btw, when he is firing these shots from his "equalizer" what stops him from missing perps and hitting the passenger on the bus. Or the bullet going through the perp then hitting the passenger? Then the gun then ends up causing more damage then if there wasn't one. But I guess this would ruin your action story.

  • You had a giant erection while writing that, yes?

  • BTFife
  • ChicagoD

No. There was no "giant" erection. It is what it is . . .

  • UTChicago

This is why I hate telling people I'm a gun owner. I'm afraid they'll think I'm like you.

  • BTFife

    Pop guns don't count UT!

  • Yeah, that's not what happens. What happens is that perp 1 gets on the bus and jumps the driver before the driver reaches under his shirt or waistband. This happens fast because real life isn't a movie, and the driver has no time to react. If the driver happens to be holding the gun you describe all day ready to go just in case, he either shoots himself when he hits a bump or he shoots himself when he tries to draw.

I know people like you think you can John Wayne your way out of any situation, but that's just not how it works out. The little paper targets you like to play with don't shoot back.

  • BTFife

Some people shouldn't carry guns, and I agree that you are one of them. It's obvious from your earlier statements about pointing a loaded gun at passengers getting on a bus, that you would have no clue what to do with a gun. Also, guns don't just go off on bumps, there's something called a trigger that needs to be pulled by your finger. With training you can teach yourself trigger discipline too, instead of just picking your nose.

  • BTFife

LOL, was that you BlueFairlane? I told you it's not a good idea for someone like you to be near a gun! I'm glad you survived though. Try taking some safety training first.

  • JoeChicago

Oh boy. Please let us know when you stop living in your action movie fantasy world. Unfortunately conceal and carry laws will not deter criminals.

  • BTFife

You are wrong and you will have the opportunity to see for yourself when Illinois joins the rest of the country, and criminals decide that there are easier pickins somewhere else, .

  • JoeChicago

So tell me again what happens if the bus driver isn't Clint Eastwood and he ends up shooting the passenger that was on the bus by accident? Not such a great idea anymore is it?

  • BTFife

What kind of accident, the gun suddenly gets a life of it's own and starts randomly shooting people?

If somebody got killed then the perps would all get charged with murder, instead of just the normal strong armed robbery they would have been charged with. It's a deterrent against crime.

  • JoeChicago

I can't argue with you if you can't understand that it is possible that the bus driver in this scenario won't have perfect aim.

  • BTFife

If he sticks it in the gut, he already has perfect aim. The Transit Union is for something like this, you are being a bit selfish and perhaps naiive in your thinking that the bus driver shouldn't be able to defend himself

You accuse me above of having an action movie fantasy, but things like I described do happen in real life. You are living in the bubble that Mayor Daley, and now Emmanuel have created for you. See below...

  • BTFife

4 against 1. Too bad this is Chicago and the bus driver wasn't allowed to carry his equalizer with him.

  • Why don't we explore the logistical process of how this would work. They probably don't have buses in Podunkville or wherever you live, so I'll start by explaining the layout. A bus driver sits in a chair at the front of a bus. The machine to take your money or read your card is next to the driver, about a foot or so to his/her right, where the passengers enter. If a passenger has nefarious intent, this passenger can cover the distance between the pay box and the driver in well under half a second. This means that in order for an equalizer to do any equalizing, the driver would have to have said equalizer cocked and ready, aimed at the passengers as they board. This would be far more likely to discourage me taking the bus than any fear of random hoodlums.

No, what would be far more likely to happen is that random hoodlums would stop as if to pay their fare, then jump the driver and get a free equalizer. Unless CTA happens to hire Clint Eastwood. Clint Eastwood could probably pull that off, but he doesn't really need CTA pay.

  • JoeChicago

Exactly, why don't people realize that guns don't help at all in situations where there is surprise involved.
