Farewell, Luminous Field

We just had to post one more gallery of our Flickr contributors' photos from Luminous Field. The light and sound installation from local artistic collective Luftwerk and Third Coast Percussion's Owen Clayton Condon made us look at Anish Kapoor's Cloud Gate in a whole new way.

The show started on Feb. 10, and for 10 days the colorful lights shone. As you'll notice in the photos above, people flocked to The Bean to catch the show before it ended yesterday. Was 10 days really enough?

Now we're looking forward to seeing another infusion of color in the Loop this summer with the upcoming Color Jam.

I'm with Tankboy on this one. I went last week and even with no expectations I was disappointed. The lights were on par with a cool concert or warehouse party in 2008. And if crowds and/or tourists get in the way of your enjoyment of things this REALLY wasn't the place for you.

  • Gotta admit, we went Saturday night and were underwhelmed. We went iun with huge expectations only to realize that the photos we've seen have all been framed (beautifully I should add) to give the fields a MUCH greater sense of size than they actually had.
