Intelligentsia Coffee Expanding In Chicago, To New York And San Francisco In 2013

By Anthony Todd in Food on Jan 8, 2013 8:00PM

We knew that a new Intelligentsia was coming to Logan Square. That's quite a bit of expansion for a small company, so imagine our surprise when we read that they planned to open three more cafes in Chicago, as well as one in New York and one in San Francisco, all in 2013.

Sprudge (a coffee news and gossip website) has all the details. The Logan Square store is still happening, but it will be joined by an outpost in Old Town opening in the summer and a store in Wicker Park opening in the fall.

In San Francisco, the cafe will be located in Potrero Hill. In New York, it's in West Chelsea. Intelligentsia has gained a cult following wherever it goes for it's obsessive approach to quality, fair trade buying and their dashing, vest-wearing baristas. In addition to these new shops, they already have outposts in Los Angeles, Pasadena and Venice, California. Intelligentsia has roasting works in Chicago and LA and training labs in New York and Atlanta. (Ed. Note: Intelligentsia's was named the coffee industry's leading power player by Food Republic in 2011.—CS)
